How late is the Library open?
The Library is open Monday-Thursday 12pm-7pm; and Saturdays 9am-1pm.
AS OF MARCH 14 the Library is temporarily closed on Friday.
What do I need to get a Library card?
The get a library card, bring with you to the front desk 1) a current/valid Illinois driver’s license; and 2) another form with name and address on it.

How much is a non-resident card?
A non-resident card is $65 annually; this covers the cost of up to 2 adult library cards residing at the same home address.
Why do I have to pay a non-resident fee?
The Library is a tax-supported library: a portion of City property taxes are allocated every year to the Library for funding.
Any non-resident and those who do not own/pay taxes on a property within the City limits pay the equivelent of what City residents pay in property taxes.
The non-resident fee is calculated on a yearly basis by the total of City of Red Bud property taxes, average household number, and City population.
I live outside the City limits, but own property in town, do I have to pay the non-resident fee?
No, if you own/pay taxes on a property within the City limits, you can get a 1-year library card at no additional cost.
I live outside of town, but pay the Red Bud fire dues. Do I still have to pay the non-resident fee?
Yes, if you live outside of town and do not own/pay taxes on a property within town, you still have to pay the non-resident fee to get a Library card. Paying Red Bud fire dues has no correlation with getting a Library card.
Can I get a non-resident card at Red Bud even though I live outside of Waterloo?
No, you have to get a library card from the library that covers your school district. Library service area corresponds with local school district.
How old do kids have to be to get their own library card?
Children need to be at least 5 years old to get their own library card. Their parent/legal guardian needs to be with them with the appropriate documents.
Can I get a library card for my kids if we live outside of town?
Yes, every child that is within the Red Bud CUSD 132 is eligible for a Cards for Kids. This allows all children (5+ years) to get their own library card at no additional cost.
Do you need my card to check-out material?
Yes, we need to scan your library card to access your account.
Can I get access to Libby through the Library?
No, Red Bud Public Library cards do not grant access to Libby. However, you do get access to the CloudLibrary, which is another platform to access eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Red Bud patrons are able to recieve an Evansville Public Library reciprocal card, granting them access to Libby.
How long can I check-out material for?
Any book, audiobook, or CD that the Red Bud Public Library owns is checked-out for 2 weeks. Unless a green ’14 day loan’ sticker is on the cover, there is 1 renewal. DVDs are checked out for 1 week, with 1 renewal.
Any item that is requested and loaned from another library may have a different loan period and renewal limit. Patrons receive check-put receipts that indicate the due date of materials. Patrons can always call the Library to find out the due date, renewal limit, or to renew material over the phone.
I want a specific book, but it isn’t at Red Bud. Can I get a copy?
Most likely yes. Any book that the Red Bud Public Library does not own, or our copy is currently checked out, patrons can be put on a hold list to recieve the next available copy.
Although this is likely for most books, some books may not be available to request (no other library owns it/not available in the catalog).
How long will it take to get my hold?
Wait times vary by item.
For Older Materials: it shouldn’t take longer than a week for a hold to become available to patrons.
For New Materials: If Red Bud Public Library owns a copy, the wait time will be fairly short (less than 2 weeks for most). However, if Red Bud does not own a copy, the wait time may be longer (more than 2 weeks to longer than a month). It also depends if the requested material is in high demand (50 copies, 105 people on the wait list).
Library staff cannot determine exactly when a material on hold will be delivered/ready to check-out.
How do I put a hold on a book?
There are multiple ways patrons can place holds.
1) Call the library and place holds over the phone
2) Request items through the online card catalog
3) In-person with Library staff (present your card, please!)
Where do I turn material in?
All material being turned in can be left at the circulation desk. Any book can be placed in the drop box at any time. All electronic media (DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, etc) must be brought INSIDE the library when returning.
Do I need my Library card to check-in?
No, a library card does not need to be presented when checking material in.
Do I need my Library card to renew (in-person)?
Yes, just like checking-out, your library card needs to be presented when renewing material.
Can I renew my material over the phone?
Yes, patrons are welcome to call the Library to renew materials, if renewal limit allows.
Any item which is out of renewals may not be renewed unless given permission from the owning library.
How many renewals do I have on my material?
It depends on the library it is owned by. Any material owned by Red Bud Public Library (with exception to 14 day loans) have 1 renewal. Other libraries may allow 2 or more renewals for materials.
Renewals are reflected in patron’s online accounts, or patrons can call the Library.
How much are overdue fees?
Books turned in or renewed past the due date is $0.10 per day; Audiobooks and DVDs are $1.00 per day.
Can I pay with card?
No, the Library does not have credit card reader/transaction services. All payments must be made with cash or check.
If able, we ask exact change be provided.
We do not accept $50 or $100 bills.
I turned my books into the drop box on Saturday, but my account still says they are overdue.
Any material put in the drop box after Library hours will be collected and scanned in the next business day. Patron accounts will not reflect items being turned in until they are scanned.
Do I need a library card to use a computer?
No, the library computers are for community members to use, no extra charge or library card required to use.

I tried requesting a book online, but its telling me I’m locked out.
If you get locked out of your online account, it can be for one or more of the following:
1) Library account expired
2) Material is overdue
3) If trying to renew material and it won’t let you: material may be due that day, or has no more renewals
4) There is an outstanding fee on your account
I’m having issues getting into my online account.

Can I print this document from my phone?
Yes. Email the documents you need to print to [email protected]
We do not have a wireless printer to print directly from personal devices.
How much is it to print?
Printing fees are as follows:

Black/White $0.25 per page, front and back 2 separate pages
Color $0.75 per page, front and back 2 separate pages
11 x 17
Black/White $0.50 per page, front and back 2 separate pages
Color $1.00 per page, front and back 2 separate pages
I brought my own paper to print, do I still have to pay the fee?
Yes, copying/printing still requires using the ink from the library copier.
Can you fax?
Yes, we provide faxing services to US continental only.
$1.00 per page, front and back are separate pages.
We can provide a lead/cover sheet upon request, added to total cost
Can I have a fax sent to be picked up later?
Yes, but please call ahead and notify the Library staff of who the fax is for, who will be picking it up, and where it is coming from.
The library will hold it for 1 week before discarding the fax.
The library is not responsible for contacting pick up person/sender.
Are the bookmarks free?
Yes! All our bookmarks we have out are available to everyone for free!
I got these from book sale, how much are they?
Any material taken from book sale is by donation – however much the buyer wants to give.
